Courcey Rovers
3-19 Aghabullogue
1-13
Aghabullogue now have to face Fr O’Neills in order to
retain their Premier Intermediate Hurling status for the coming year, following
a defeat to Courcey Rovers in Brinny. In what were excellent conditions for
hurling, the game had a very close first half but Courceys finished much the
stronger team. Courceys opened the scoring after 25 seconds with a goal; this
was quickly followed by two further points from the Courceys men. Aghabullogue,
however fought back and with two great points from Niall Buckley and Patrick
Finnegan and a goal from a penalty by Patrick Finnegan, Aghabullogue were right
back in the game. Courceys then continued to add on some great points and
another goal but two points from John Corkery (2) and three points (2 free’s)
from Patrick Finnegan kept Aghabullogue in touch, with the score at half time
2-09 to 1-07 in favour of Courcey Rovers.
Aghabullogue opened the scoring in the second half with a
point each from the Finnegan brothers. Courceys added a point before John
Corkery added another point for Aghabullogue. Courceys then upped their game and
a goal and a point for them gave them a seven point advantage. Finbarr Foley
then denied Courceys of another goal with a spectacular save for Aghabullogue.
Courceys continued to pile on the pressure and added numerous points to their
tally. Points from Patrick Finnegan (2 free’s) and John Corkery was not enough
to ensure a victory for Aghabullogue.
