Tracton 1-22 Aghabullogue
2-16
Aghabullogue have one more chance to stay in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship following an unfortunate defeat to Tracton, on Saturday 3rd July. It took extra time to decide the winners of the game and in the last few minutes of extra time, tracton managed to get the upper hand on the Aghabullogue men. Aghabullogue started the stronger and had an impressive one goal and two points on the scoreboard before Tracton registered their first score.
John Corkery opened the scoring with a great point from
play and Kevin Finnegan quickly added another point from a free. Patrick
Finnegan then fired a great shot to the back of the Tracton net following a
sublime pass from John Corkery. Tractons first score followed but it was quickly
cancelled out by another free from Kevin Finnegan. Tracton then upped their game
but further scores from Kevin and Patrick Finnegan saw Aghabullogue leading at
half time on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-06.
The second half was a very close affair but Tracton
started the strongest. Tracton got the first two scores, two points, which saw
the sides level for the first time in the match. John Corkery upped the ante and
scored a point from play for Aghabullogue. Scores for both sides were plentiful
but quickly cancelled out the opposing scores. With the Aghabullogue scores
coming from Patrick Finnegan (free), Kevin Finnegan (2 frees) and Niall Buckley,
things were looking good for Aghabullogue. Tracton then added three points
without reply and time was running out. A massive effort from Patrick Finnegan,
saw Aghabullogue go one point ahead with a well struck goal from a free. A fast
puck out from Tracton, gave them one last chance, which they took to level the
game at full time. The score at the end of normal time was 2-10 to 0-16.
The first half of extra time, again was very close but
Tracton did go in with a one point advantage at half time, score: 1-18 to 2-14.
John Kelleher, Patrick Finnegan, John Corkery and John Buckley all scored for
Aghabullogue.
Tracton found it easier in the second half of extra time to take their scores
and in the end ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-22 to 2-16. Kevin Finnegan
scores Aghabullogue’s two points from frees.
Aghabullogue now face Courcey Rovers in the third round on possibly
