On Saturday
1st May, Aghabullogue hosted a football tournament in memory of John
McSweeney, from Rylane who died so tragically a number of years ago. This
tournament was organised by Aghabullogue GAA club in conjunction with the
McSweeney family and will be an annual event, with the proposed alternation
between football and hurling every second year. This was a great way to honour
such a talented and dedicated club player.
Donoughmore
ran out winners of the John McSweeney tournament 2010 following a victory over
Clondrohid, in a game where extra time was required to separate the teams. The
final score read 3-10 to 1-08 in favour of Donoughmore. Seven teams
participated in the tournament with Aghabullogue (1), Canovee (1), Dripsey and
Donoughmore in group A and Aghabullogue(2), Canovee(2) and Clondrohid in group
B. Group games were 7 minutes aside and a panel of 10 players was permitted for
each team.
Donoughmore
and Clondrohid topped their groups and met in the final, which consisted of ten
minutes aside. The game was very close and at the full time whistle, the teams
were on level terms and extra time was required to decide the winners. In extra
time, Donoughmore got some vital scores, which saw them run out as deserved
winners on the day.
