Aghabullogue minor hurlers advance to the next stage of the County Championship competition following a skilful and
determined display in Newcestown on Tuesday 17th August.
Aghabullogue proved to be a better side than Sam Maguires but had to fight
until the end to ensure their victory. Sam Maguires opened the scoring but
thanks to the excellent accuracy of placed balls, Mark O'Flynn gave Aghabullogue
an advantage, which they held onto for the entire game. With Mark O'Flynn scoring
6 points from free’s, Shane Dineen- a point from play and Evan O’Sullivan a
goal from play, Aghabullogue had a tally of 1-07 at half time. Sam Maguires had
a total of four points at half time.
Sam Maguires opened the second half stronger and had 3
points scored before Aghabullogue responded with four consecutive scores from
Mark Flynn. These scores, all from frees added a further 1-03 to Aghabullogue’s
tally. A goal by Sam Maguires followed but it was not enough and a further
point from a free by Mark Flynn, saw the scoreline at the final whistle read
2-11 to 1-07 in favour of Aghabullogue.
